The Moroccan marriage ceremony spans almost a week of religious and cultural traditions. The holders and master organizers of these inherited customs are called "Negafas." Usually an elderly woman highly respected in the community, these revered bridal stylists direct the bridal party from the giving away of the bride to the meals prepared for guests. But, her main and most instrumental role is the dressing of the bride in ornate, elegant costumes. Throughout the ceremony, a bride will change costumes between three to seven times. The outfits different in color and style are reminiscent of the country's tribal ancestry. The last dress is typically the modern "white" wedding dress.
